James Howseman started playing
the trumpet in the 4th grade.  By
the time he was a sophomore in
high school, he was playing
lead/principle trumpet in all of the
groups he was asked to perform
with.
At that time he also began teaching, taking on a number of beginning and
intermediate students in his spare time.  When he moved on to college, he began
studying with the likes of Claude Gordon, Dave Burkhart, Dwight Cannon, and
Randy Masters, and playing with such notable ensembles as the San Jose Civic
Light Opera, the Spartan Marching Band and the award winning Latin Jazz
Ensemble.

After leaving the field of music for a number of years to pursue careers in sales
and finance, he began teaching and playing again in the early 1990's and hasn't
looked back.  Since that time James has played with many different groups
spanning a wide range of musical styles.  Including, A Touch Of Brass, the
Musicians Warehouse Big Band featuring Louie Bellson, Cathedral of Faith
Orchestra, Kool Kats, Souled-Out, Western Stage, San Jose Children's Musical
Theater, Orchestra Gitano, Groove Doctors, Sunnyvale House Rockers, and
many college and community bands in the South Bay area.  James has also been
fortunate enough to have performed with Bobby Shew, Louie Bellson, John
Worley, Ed Morrison, Mike Vax, Jim Dooley, Scott Englebright, Dave and Graham
Richards, Brian Boothe, Tom Tomacello, and Joe Hodge.

James has also performed in many popular musicals including, West Side Story,
Singin' in the Rain, Will Rogers Follies, No, No, Nannette, Hello Dolly, Annie, Into
the Woods, Brigadoon, Oklahoma, The Music Man, Nutcracker, Gypsy, and
Chorus Line.

Over the years, James has taken lessons from the great Bobby Shew, Claude
Gordon, Mike Vax, Robert Szabo, Joe Davis, Bruce Haag, and Tom Brozene.

Currently, James teaches music privately from the studios of
West Valley Music in
Mountain View, CA.  In addition James plays regularly with the Cathedral of Faith
Orchestra in San Jose, the Mike Sloan Big Band,
